Contraindications

Breathwork results in certain specific physiological changes in the body and also can result in intense physical and emotional release. Breathwork might not be the right practice for you if you are taking any medications or have any medical conditions such as, but not limited to:

  • Pregnancy.

  • Detached Retina.

  • Glaucoma.

  • High Blood Pressure or very low blood pressure.

  • Cardiovascular disease including angina, previous heart attack, stroke or arrhythmia.

  • Diagnosis of aneurysm in the brain or abdomen.

  • Uncontrolled diabetes and thyroid conditions.

  • Asthma (Severe or not) – if applicable, please bring an inhaler to the session.

  • Epilepsy or seizures.

  • PTSD.

  • Prior diagnosis of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, psychosis or previous psychiatric condition.

  • Hospitalisation for any psychiatric condition or emotional crisis within the last 10 years.

  • Any other medical, psychiatric or physical conditions which would impair or affect the ability to engage in any activities that involve intense physical and/or emotional release.

You will need to inform the facilitator of this session if experiencing any of the above.

In any of these cases, modified practice options may be offered to you. We also advise modified practice if you are experiencing panic attacks and high levels of anxiety at present.

The facilitator may on occasion advise that breathwork is not suitable for you.

Potential participants may want to consult with their primary care physician and seek a certified professional before engaging in breathwork therapy.
